Jonas Fester has been LVC’s head baseball coach since 2019. He is LVC’s 33rd head coach in the program’s 125-year history.
Fester led the Dutchmen to their second consecutive MAC Commonwealth Championship in 2023, posting a 31-17-1 overall record with a 19-5 mark against conference opponents. Lebanon Valley registered the best record in the MAC Commonwealth while setting a program record of 31 wins in a season. The club swept both York College of Pennsylvania in the semifinals and Alvernia University in the MAC Commonwealth Championship series, securing its second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Fester was also named the MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year for the second season in a row. Nico Santoro was selected as the conference’s Player of the Year and the club had a program-record nine players honored on the All-MAC Commonwealth Team. The team also received several other accolades, including Shane Stossel’s selection to the D3baseball.com All-America Team, four College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honorees, three D3baseball.com All-Region selections and three American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region Team recipients. Additionally, the program had 19 MAC Academic Honor Roll selections while earning the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award.
Head Coach Jonas Fester has announced Beth Woerner has joined the Flying Dutchmen’s coaching staff as a full-time assistant coach in August of 2021. Beth will be one of the few female assistant baseball coaches in the NCAA and is presumed to be the only full-time assistant.
“We are thrilled to welcome Beth to the LVC Baseball program as a full-time assistant coach,” said Fester. “Her breadth of experience in and around the game will help our program immensely. She is also a true trailblazer in the industry and great role model for young baseball players throughout the country. I’d also like to thank Rick Beard ’90, M’92 and President MacLaren for their leadership and support in growing our program.”
Most recently, Woerner worked at the University of Charleston West Virginia (UCWV) as an assistant coach where she prepared and organized daily scouting reports, managed baseball technology and data via the Rapsodo, Blast, and Win Reality, planned and taught infield defensive skill training sessions, and set student-athletes up for success in the classroom as the team’s academic point of contact.
This past May, Woerner received her Masters of Strategic Leadership from UCWV and before her time in Charleston, she worked as a program manager at Baseball Prospectus where she collaborated with a cross-functional team of analysts and developers to support ongoing editorial and statistical projects to support the website.
Woerner has a plethora of playing experience, as she’s a member of the DC Thunder and Baltimore Pirates. Additionally, she served as treasurer of the Eastern Women’s Baseball Conference in 2019 and was an at-large board member.
She holds several certifications, including Driveline Foundations of Pitching, Driveline Pitch Design, K-Motion K Baseball Level 1, Rapsodo Pitching, and Rapsodo Hitting.
Woerner graduated from James Madison University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology and archaeology.
Chad Schell enters his 16th year as an assistant coach at Lebanon Valley in 2023.
Schell was a three-time all-conference selection in high school and a two-time district all-star. He holds two school records: total strikeouts and complete-game shutouts in a season.
Schell attended Lock Haven University and was a four-year letter winner. He currently holds the school record for shutouts in a season (three) and in the 2001 season, he had three consecutive shutouts in PSAC action. He graduated from Lock Haven in 2002 with a degree in communication and a minor in psychology.
At Lebanon Valley, Schell has coached a few all-conference pitches including the most recent, Kyle Kingsbury who is the school’s all-time strikeout leader. He is a Rapsodo Certified pitch design specialist and holds private instruction at Champs Performance Training in Lebanon.
Currently, Schell works in the Center for Academic Success at LVC as the Academic Success Coach.
Schell resides in Mount Joy, Pa. with his wife Jamie and their two sons, Nolan and Reese.
