Coach Waggoner has been coaching at the collegiate level for over 20 years while spending the last 16 seasons as the Head Coach at Marshall University. He has earned the title of Coach of the Year twice while he has helped produce 6 All – American players and 53 players who were drafted into the MLB (including three first round draft picks). He has had one College World Series and five NCAA Regional appearances.

The idea of forming NextBase Showcases started from a local need by players and parents asking questions on how to get help with exposure and handling the recruiting process.  Understanding how hard it is to recruit with limited scholarships, limited recruiting coaches, and limited budget, trying to cover High school players, Junior college players and Transfer portal players can be a challenge.  Thus, NextBase Showcases was formed.

We will be holding our showcases in 4 different locations, and we will hold them when there are no major tournaments to be in conflict. We have one of the strongest networks with college coaches at all levels, (perhaps more than any other recruiting services in the country).  With over 65 years of experience coaching at all levels, our ability to evaluate, advise and network is second to none. We have partnered with 5-Tool Baseball, which will add exposure to to us as well. With over 1,000 college coaches following across all of their platforms, 5-Tool Baseball separates themselves because of in game coverage and coverage in real time (live action not from a still camera).

Some of the most successful programs in college baseball’s recent history grace Thomas’s resume, including Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, Louisiana State and his most recent stop, at 2007 CWS participant Arizona State. It’s a journey that Thomas has made on 14 occasions at four different schools. He has coached in more College World Series than any active head coach.

Thomas played a major role in the Sun Devils’ success in the 2007 season, helping lead the team to a No. 3 National Ranking. The Sun Devils ended the season with the nation’s third-best team batting average (.345) and slugging percentage (.531), and ranked second in scoring (9.4/game). ASU also led the country in fielding percentage (.979). Prior to helping ASU return to Omaha, Thomas served as recruiting coordinator and hitting coach at LSU from 2000-06, winning a national title with the Tigers his first year on the job.
