Radford University Baseball Camps
Former Radford baseball standout Alex Guerra has been hired by head coach Joe Raccuia as an assistant baseball coach for the Highlanders heading into the 2013-14 season and helped lead the Highlanders to a school-record 33 win in his first season back in the New River Valley in 2014. Guerra played two seasons under Raccuia in a Radford uniform in 2010 and 2011.
His duties at Radford will include working with hitters, recruiting, day-to-day operations, and serving as the team’s bench coach on game day.
“We are excited to bring Alex back to Radford baseball,” Raccuia said. “He has a high level of passion for the university and the baseball program. With his playing experience at RU and work at UCF, he is more than qualified to assist in developing our players and bringing our program to the next level. This is an exciting day for Radford baseball.”
Guerra returns to his alma mater after two seasons as a volunteer assistant at Central Florida under fellow Radford alumnus, head coach Terry Rooney. He served as the director of baseball operations for the Knights and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the program.
“It’s an honor to be back at Radford,” Guerra said. “Coach Raccuia gave me a chance to play Division I baseball, and I am excited to help represent my former teammates and RU alumni to have a direct impact on this program and help lead it to a championship.”
In his two seasons as a Highlander, Guerra batted .311 and drove in 94 runs. He also hit 11 home runs and fielded at a .947 clip while playing second base, shortstop, and third base for RU. In 2011, he led the team with 47 RBI.
A native of Wantagh, N.Y. on Long Island, Guerra transfered to Radford from Division III Greensboro College, where he played two seasons for the Pride and was named to the 2008 USA South All-Sportsmanship Team.

Bourne joined the Radford Baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach in August 2022. He serves as the program’s pitching coach.
“Christian and I have had a history that started during my time as an assistant at Radford during the recruiting process,” noted Guerra. “Since then, we have developed a very special relationship. I had the pleasure of coaching him at JMU and have seen him grow into one of the brightest young coaches in our profession. He has a unique way of getting the most out of players, his personality is infectious and he has a passion for developing players. Christian is a rising star and we are lucky to have him and his wife Lindsay be a part of Radford Baseball”
Bourne joined the Highlanders from Georgia Southern where he was the Director of Baseball Operations and Player Development for coach Rodney Hennon last season.
“I want to thank Alex Guerra for the opportunity to be a part of such a special program,” said Bourne. “Having grown up in the area, I know firsthand how tight knit this community and university both are. My wife and I are so excited to be coming back to southwestern Virginia and to become members of the Radford family. I look forward to enhancing the student-athlete experience at Radford and bringing a championship home to the NRV. Go Highlanders!”
Over the course of a 41-20 season that resulted in the hosting of an NCAA Regional, Bourne oversaw all aspects of Georgia Southern player development, using technology and innovation to design and research player development models in the assisting of coaches. He also directed day-to-day operations of the baseball program, overseeing the overall management of the baseball budget and team travel, as well as involvement with Eagle Baseball Camps.
Prior to joining the Eagles, Bourne was with his alma mater JMU as the Director of Pitching Development alongside Alex Guerra. The Dukes finished the 2021 season with three players named to the All-CAA teams. Recent first round MLB draft pick Chase DeLauter earned first team and rookie nods, while fellow pitcher Liam Grubbs made second team.
Following his playing career at JMU, Bourne returned to Nashville, Tennessee to coach at Mount Juliet High School. Before the COVID-19 pandemic ended their season, Bourne guided an undefeated Mount Juliet staff to a team ERA of 2.50 and threw a no-hitter three games into the season. He helped coach nine players that are committed or signed to play at the collegiate level.
Bourne played for the Dukes from 2016 to 2019, making 55 appearances for the purple and gold.
Biagini is in his first season after joining the Highlanders in July of 2024, coming from Towson where he served as Associate Head Coach for the last three seasons with seven total years on the assistant coaching staff.
“I want to thank Coach Tyner for my time with him at Towson, he has always been a mentor for me since we met 11 years ago, and I am grateful that he continued to challenge me to grow as a coach and as a person during our time together,” commented Biagini. “I am excited and grateful to be joining Coach Guerra’s staff here at Radford. I respected the way he played the game during our time against each other as players and continued to respect his work ethic and his coaching style over the years as he has climbed the coaching ranks. Lastly I want to thank my family for all of their support over the years. Especially my wife, it is not easy being married to a college coach and even tougher while raising our sons while working full time herself. Our family is very excited to be moving to the New River Valley and becoming a part of the Radford community.”
“Tanner is an outstanding fit for Radford,” added head coach Alex Guerra. “Throughout his career at the Division I level, he has shown the ability to recruit and develop players. His extensive relationships with travel and high school coaches in the area will give us an advantage from a recruiting standpoint. Tanner has the personality, knowledge, and experience to make players better. We are excited to welcome Tanner, his wife Ashley, and their two sons Gio and Gabe to the Highlander Baseball family!”
In his first year as associate head coach in 2022, Towson finished 10th in program history with 50 home runs during the season. In his second year as associate head coach, Towson hitters improved to crank an even larger 70 home runs, which ranks fourth all-time in program history. The beat went on in 2024 as the Tigers under his guidance drove in 250 runs with four batters hitting over .300 on the season.
During his previous first four years with the team as an assistant, Towson ranked in the top-3 in the CAA in caught stealing % by catchers, including first in 2018 and 2020. In 2021, Biagini helped coach Towson to its first CAA Tournament since 2013 and the highest win total since 2014. Four of Towson’s top five hitters in batting average were newcomers.
Biagini helped with the hitting of Richie Palacios, who was drafted in the third round by the Cleveland Indians in 2018 and is a current member of the Tampa Bay Rays. Palacios earned Second Team All-CAA at shortstop in 2018.
Prior to Towson, Biagini spent three seasons as an assistant at Lafayette College. In his role with the Leopards, Biagini worked with the hitters and catchers, while also handling pregame scouting reports.
Prior to his time at LC, Biagini spent three years as a volunteer assistant and camp director at the University of Richmond. The Spiders qualified for the Atlantic 10 tournament in each of his three seasons and advanced to the championship game in 2012.
In his playing days, Biagini was a four-year starting third baseman for VMI. He served as a team captain his senior year as the Keydets reached their highest national ranking in program history, coming in at No. 26. He was a 2008 First-Team Virginia SID All-State selection. In 2007, he helped the team win a school-record 34 games.
At the conclusion of his collegiate career, he became a member of the Tampa Bay Rays organization and played for the Gulf Coast League affiliate as an infielder and catcher in 2010 and with the New York-Penn League Hudson Valley Renegades in 2011.
