TJ Binder’s a coach with accomplishments. A 2016 semifinalist for the Greg Olson breakout player of the year while at Troy University, he played 38 games and started 24 (11 at DH, eight at first and five at third). Led the team with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on 78 chances. Finished his Troy career with a .253 batting average with 18 doubles, a triple and four home runs while driving in 45 runs. Posted a career .340 slugging percentage and a .362 on-base percentage in his four seasons.
Of course, his accomplishments in college were a continuation of his high school career and efforts. Four-time all-district selection at Ooltewah High School in Chattanooga, Tenn., TJ earned all-state honors following a junior season in which he hit .409 with 18 doubles, three home runs and drove in 38 runs. He hit over .400 in all four years for the Owls and was three times named to the Chattanooga Free Press’ Best of Preps team. Batted .413 with 20 doubles, four homers and 30 RBIs as a senior, .481 with 22 doubles, five home runs and 35 RBIs as a sophomore and .422 with 11 doubles, two home runs and 27 RBIs as a freshman. Helped lead the Owls to a pair of district championships. Played for Team Tennessee in the 2011 Sunbelt Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. Also played for the prestigious Chattanooga Cyclones organization baseball team.
