The Panther Baseball Prospect Camp is designed to provide players who want to continue their playing careers at the next level with an opportunity to receive instruction as well as be evaluated by the entire coaching staff.

This event is considered to be a major part of the recruiting process for the Ferrum College Baseball Program! The format is designed to give the coaches in attendance the best opportunity to evaluate each player and make a determination on where they would fit in their program.

The itinerary will include: 60 yard dash, defensive workout and offensive workout. Live games will also take place so the pitchers can be evaluated by throwing to hitters. Coaches will also further see each position player in an actual game setting.

All high school graduates 2025-2028 are open to attend. Four-year transfers and JUCO transfers are also open to attend this event. Open to any and all entrants limited only by number, age, grade level, and/or gender.

Ryan Brittle joined the Ferrum staff as head baseball coach in the summer of 2013. In his first season at the helm of the program, he led the Panthers to the 2014 USA South regular season title and was named Coach of the Year. Brittle then led Ferrum to the USA South regular season title in 2016, and was again named Coach of the Year.

Prior to being named head coach at Ferrum, Brittle served as assistant baseball coach four years at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was the assistant head coach at Rogers State, lead infield instructor and third base coach for the Hillcat baseball program, which was ranked in the NAIA Top 25 all four years Brittle was with the program.

Prior to Rogers State, Brittle was assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator for seven years at Radford University, and assistant baseball coach two years at Virginia Tech.

Brittle attended Ferrum two years before completing his bachelor’s degree at Virginia Tech, where he played two seasons for the Hokies. He was a member of the 1997 Virginia Tech team that went to the NCAA Division I Regionals. As a player at Ferrum, he was part of the 1996 Panther baseball team that competed in the NCAA Division III Regionals.

Brittle earned his bachelor’s degree in forestry from Virginia Tech in 2000, and his master’s degree in education from East Central (Okla.) University in 2011. Brittle is married to Rebecca Lynn Cooper Brittle from Stafford, Virginia. The Brittles have six children and reside in Ferrum, Virginia.

Chip Schaffner
Assistant Coach Read more Read less

Schaffner joined the Ferrum Baseball staff in Januray 2021 and will work under Head Coach Ryan Brittle. The two previously worked together at Division I Radford University.

Schaffner jumped into the baseball world after serving in the United States Army for two years. He started at Wright State University as an Assistant Baseball Coach and Adjunct Professor. After serving as the Director of a national recruiting program, he headed to Georgetown College to serve as the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.

His next stop would then come at Atlantic Coast Conference school University of Virgina as the Pitching Coach where his staff finished with the 11th best Earned Run Average in the country in 2003. A few more stops at Radford University and Mars Hill College were next for Schaffner, adding to his plethora of experience. Schaffner’s most recent stop was at former Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Emory & Henry College, where he served as their Assistant Baseball Coach from 2012-2020.

Brett Kaminski
Assistant Coach Read more Read less

Brett Kaminski joined the Ferrum staff as Assistant Baseball Coach in the fall of 2021. Kaminski comes from NCAA Div. II Tiffin University in Ohio, where he was an Assistant Coach responsible for player development and recruiting. In 2021, Tiffin’s offense ranked first in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) in batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, walks, and on-base percentage. The Dragons were also ranked in the top 50 nationally in batting average, hits, walks and on-base percentage. The Dragons went on to place five position players on the GMAC All-Conference team in that season.

Prior to Tiffin, Kaminski spent two years at NAIA Webber International University in central Florida, where he was a Graduate Assistant Coach and then Assistant Coach. The Warriors were nationally recognized in 2019 & 2020 and fell just one win short of the program’s first NAIA World Series appearance in 2019.

Kaminski attended and played baseball at Webber International from 2015-18. He was a member of the three teams that won more games (in that span) than any other team in program history. In 2016, the Webber offense set new records for runs scored, home runs, extra base hits, total bases, and stolen bases. In 2017, Webber made its first NAIA Tournament appearance and set a program record for season wins. The 2018 Warriors clinched the program’s first conference title in the Sun Conference Tournament and made another NAIA playoff appearance.

Kaminski earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Business Management in 2018, and his master’s degree in Criminal Justice Management in 2020 from Webber International. Kaminski lives in Ferrum with his wife Katelyn and daughter Kinsley.
