UC Riverside Baseball Camps
Justin Johnson joined the UC Riverside Baseball Coaching Staff in September of 2014 as the program’s director of baseball operations following one year as the head coach at Saint Katherine College. He became a volunteer assistant with the program the following year.
Prior to his stint at Saint Katherine’s, Johnson spent two seasons as the associate head coach at Cal Tech, where he helped the Beavers to the programs first win in ten years.
Johnson began his coaching career at Valley View High School where he helped guide the Eagles to two CIF Playoff appearances.
A graduate of Diamond Bar High School, Johnson played at Mt. SAC for legendary coach Art Mazmanian. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays, and played a summer as a free agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers in extended spring training.
Johnson lives in Moreno Valley with his wife, Dana, and their daughter, Hope.

Lloyd Acosta serves as the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for UC Riverside baseball, entering his third season in 2025.
Previously at UC Davis, Acosta helped coordinate the Aggies’ recruiting efforts while working with the infielders, hitting, base running, and manning the third-base coaching box.
In his first tenure at UC Davis, Acosta spent six seasons as an assistant with the Aggies from 2002-07 as the program’s recruiting coordinator and working with the defense, improving the team’s fielding percentage in every season. UC Davis led the nation with a .970 fielding percentage in 2003 as the Aggies advanced to the NCAA Division II College World Series, finishing third.
Part of a staff that helped UC Davis transition to the Division I level, Acosta helped recruit the players that would eventually help the Aggies earn their first NCAA Regional berth at the Division I level in 2008. In his first six seasons in Davis, he helped mentor 11 players who went on to sign professional contracts — including infielders Ryan Coultas in the sixth round in 2004 and 2007 third-rounder Daniel Descalso, who became only the second Aggie to reach the Major Leagues and would win a World Series title with St. Louis in his first full professional season in 2011 — while helping to assemble a group that had a school-record seven players selected in the 2008 draft.
In addition, Eddie Gamboa, who won 13 games in his three seasons with the Aggies — including leading UC Davis to the NCAA Regionals in 2008 with a 7-3 record and a 2.61 ERA — earned his first Major League call-up in 2015 with the Baltimore Orioles and is now a member of the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

Who can participate in your camps?
Our camps are open to all baseball players, regardless of skill level, age, grade level, or gender. We welcome beginners looking to learn the game as well as advanced players seeking to enhance their skills.
Who are the instructors?
Our camps boast a highly qualified and experienced coaching staff. Instructors include UCR Baseball Coaches, and current players. This ensures that participants receive top-notch instruction from experts who are dedicated to fostering the growth and development of young athletes.
What safety measures will be in place?
The safety of our campers is of utmost importance to us. We maintain a safe and secure environment by adhering to all necessary health and safety guidelines. Our staff is trained to provide proper supervision and ensure that all equipment is in good condition.
How can I register my child for your camps?
Registration for our camps can be completed online through Play’n Sports software. The registration process will require basic information about your child, such as name, age/grade, emergency contact details, and any medical considerations. Specific instructions and registration deadlines will be available on the camp website.
