Eric Sandoz joined the staff as graduate assistant coach ahead of the 2021 season after finishing his playing career for the Javelinas in 2019. He was named All-LSC second team after he made 16 relief appearances and one start of a 4-1 record with a team-high three saves. He compiled a 2.35 ERA with 12 earned runs across 46 innings pitched, picked up 48 strikeouts and allowed only 30 hits for a team-low .189 opponent batting average.
Sandoz’s highlights from his lone season in the Blue and Gold featured his first win against Oklahoma Baptist on February 8 with three innings pitched and six strikeouts. He added his first save against St. Mary’s on February 16 with five punch outs across three innings and added four strikeouts with his lone start against Angelo State on April 27 with three and 2/3 innings pitch for the no-decision. He struck out a season-high seven in three and 2/3 innings pitched against Tarleton on April 6 and threw a season-high eight innings in relief on April 1 against Cameron with six strikeouts.
Before he came to Kingsville, Sandoz spent a year pitching for Nebraska-Kearney after transferring from Navarro College after a two-year stint. He was named All-MIAA honorable mention for the Lopers in 2018. He went 1-3 with nine saves as he compiled a 2.97 ERA in 33.1 innings pitched along with 34 strikeouts to only seven walks. He totaled the third-most saves in program history and didn’t allow a run, earned or unearned, in his first five outings.
His second year at Navarro featured a 1.29 ERA in 21 innings pitched with one save in 15 appearances. He struck out 21 including a season-high five in two innings of work against Bossier Parish on March 25. His first year at Navarro featured a 9.82 ERA with two saves in 14.2 innings pitched, striking out 14 in the process.
