Meet Our Partners: RBI Triad

Play’n Sports has been fortunate enough to partner with several organizations who are focused on bringing baseball and softball to the underserved in our communities.

Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) is perhaps the most well-known of these organizations. The chapter Founded by Andy Harper is  devoted to serving the Piedmont Triad region, RBI Triad is a youth outreach organization affiliated with Major League Baseball. Their mission is to increase participation and interest in baseball and softball among underserved youth, promote greater inclusion of youth with diverse backgrounds into the mainstream of the game, increase the number of talented athletes prepared to play in college and professionally, encourage academic achievement, and to teach the value of teamwork.

Organizations like RBI have a profound impact on their respective communities. According to a study conducted by the Aspen Institute and Utah State University, young athletes from low-income homes are six times more likely to give up sports for financial reasons. By providing more options to kids who otherwise might be unable to join a team, RBI allows for any community member, regardless of financial means, to reap the benefits of playing team sports.

In addition to positively increasing the number of players who may go on to play at the high levels, RBI allows all participants the chance to enjoy all the benefits associated with involvement in youth sports: exercise, social skill development, higher test scores, and an increase in self-esteem. Keeping kids active and exposing them to baseball from a young age will instill the values of teamwork, responsibility, and goal setting. Organizations such as RBI Triad benefit individuals and communities alike. Play’n Sports is proud to partner with a group so dedicated to bringing baseball to all.
