“Matt is a highly energetic coach who will be a great addition for our program,” SLU head coach Darin Hendrickson said at the time of Morrow’s hire. “He will work with our hitters on a daily basis and will also coach our outfielders. Matt’s background at Wright State, UIC, Wabash Valley and professionally with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization will help our players succeed at a high level. He relates well to our student-athletes, understands the culture of SLU Athletics, and will hit the ground running on the recruiting front.”
“I want to thank Director of Athletics Chris May and Darin Hendrickson for this opportunity,” Morrow said at the time of his hire. “I am very grateful to be part of Saint Louis University. I am excited to join and add to the winning culture that this program has had over the years. Go Billikens!”
Morrow spent the previous two seasons as hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at Wabash Valley Junior College in Mount Carmel, Ill. He helped the Warriors to an NJCAA World Series runner-up finish in 2023. The Morrow-guided offense led the country in hits, runs and RBIs in 2023.
Prior to his time at Wabash Valley, Morrow spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Illinois-Chicago, where he assisted with the hitters, coached the outfielders and served as the first-base coach.
Morrow played collegiately at Wright State University, where he was a four-year starter at second base from 2015-18. He was a two-time first-team All-Conference selection in the Horizon League. Morrow was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in 2015.
Following his graduation from Wright State in 2018, Morrow signed as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He hit .286 with the Gulf Coast League Pirates and .295 for the Bristol Pirates in 2019.
