Coach Rojas most recently has served as college play-by-play announcer for ESPN the last two seasons working games in the SEC, ACC, Big XII as well as the Big XII tournament, Regionals, and Super Regionals.
Coach Rojas was born in Miami, Florida and raised in Stanley, Kansas and is a baseball lifer. His father, Cookie, played 16 years in MLB and garnered 5 All-Star appearances during his playing career. Coach Rojas followed in the family ‘business’ by playing both at the collegiate and professional levels. Rojas is familiar with NAIA baseball as he began his college playing
career at Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia. Rather than playing summer ball after his first year, Coach decided to spend the summer in Southern California where Cookie was managing the California Angels. It was while working a summer baseball camp at El Dorado High School that summer that Coach Rojas first met Coach Montez, who was at Pepperdine at the time. Coach Rojas decided to transfer to College of the Desert for his 2nd year of college ball and it proved to be fruitful, as he set the single-season and career home run mark (16) as a switch-hitting 1B/pitcher in his only season for the Roadrunners. Coach Rojas would finish his collegiate career playing for legendary coach, Ed Cheff, at Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho in 1990. That Warriors team would go on to win their 6th NAIA National Championship.
Coach Rojas signed with the Angels organization the following summer and as a closer, was named as an Arizona League All-Star. After leaving the game briefly for personal reasons, he began coaching locally in South Florida and ultimately landed as a member of the Florida Marlins coaching staff during their inaugural season in 1993. The following season, he
served as a player/pitching coach under Alan Ashby for the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in the Texas-Louisiana League.
Post-playing career, Coach Rojas succeeded in various sports front office roles in Arena Football (Anaheim Piranhas), Minor League Baseball (Rancho Cucamonga Quakes), and National Hockey League (Florida Panthers). Additionally, he served as Assistant General Manager and General Manager of the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League for two seasons. During his two seasons in Newark, the club reached the finals both years and won the Championship in 2002.
In 2003, Coach Rojas embarked on an 18-year run as a Major League Baseball broadcaster. He began his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the radio booth with Greg Schulte. He went on to spend time in the radio and television booths of
the Texas Rangers (2004-2008), became the first personality to appear on MLB Network when it launched on January 1, 2009, and wrapped his broadcasting career in the television booth of the Los Angeles Angels (2010-2021). Coach Rojas returned to the front office side for two seasons in 2021 as President & General Manager of the Double A affiliate of the Texas Rangers in Frisco, Texas.
