Our instructional camp provides all of the basic necessities your child needs to improve their level of play. Our camp covers all the essential skills, including hitting, outfielding, pitching, and catching. However, our focus extends beyond the technical aspects of the game. We emphasize the importance of a positive attitude, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Our mission is to help young athletes develop both their technical abilities and their character, ensuring they grow as well-rounded players and individuals.

The clinic will primarily focus on hitting and defensive drills, pitching, catching, and baserunning, providing a comprehensive training experience. Our structured approach is designed to enhance each athlete’s overall performance and understanding of the game. To keep the experience enjoyable and engaging, we will also incorporate games and activities, ensuring that learning remains fun for all participants.

There will also be a football game after the camp at 3:30 that will allow free admission to campers and their families!

Josh Freeman comes to Ferrum after serving as head coach of Northeast Texas Community College from 2020-2023. While at NTCC, he inherited a team that won four games prior to his arrival and led the program to their most wins and best finish in conference play this past season. During his time with the Eagles, he coached four all-conference players, most in school history, and the first all-region player in team history.

Cooney comes to Ferrum from the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina, where she was a four-year starter for the Trojan softball team and was a two-time All-American outfielder. A rare four-time All-Region first team selection, she was also a four-time All-Conference first team selection in Conference Carolinas. Cooney holds 11 school records at Mount Olive, including season batting average (.503), career batting average (.443), career hits (282), season hits (84), career runs (193), season runs (65), career stolen bases (136), season stolen bases (46), game stolen bases (6), career triples (11) and game hits (4).
Cooney was Mount Olive’s Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year as a junior in 2023, then earned Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete honors her senior year in 2024.
